Please join the DSR for a special book launch on Monday, Oct. 28. The launch will feature a talk by Professor Naomi Seidman and a performance by Basya Schechter, founder of the world/folk rock band Pharaoh's Daughter.
Seidman's research focuses on an Orthodox Jewish girls' school movement founded by Sarah Schenirer in Poland between the world wars. The movement quickly spread among teachers and youth alike and is still active today. Seidman's book is available from Amazon and focuses on Schenirer and the cultural/political forces surrounding the movement's formative years.
The lecture and concert will take place at 4:00 on the University of Toronto St. George campus, Jackman Humanities Building, room 100. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies, the Department for the Study of Religion, and Hillel UofT.
