Description
Honouring Age: The Social Dynamics of Age Structure in 1 Timothy
Book launch and discussion panel, facilitated by DSR faculty member Judith H. Newman.
Mona Tokarek LaFosse's Honouring Age: The Social Dynamics of Age Structure in 1 Timothy (McGill-Queen's University Press) is a new reading of an enigmatic Christian text shaped by an investigation of ancient Mediterranean experiences of age. The author will offer a short summary and reading from the book, followed by a conversation with Terry Donaldson (Professor Emeritus, Wycliffe College), Margaret Y. MacDonald (St. Mary’s University, Halifax) and Alistair C. Stewart (Codrington College, Barbados), facilitated by Judith H. Newman (Emmanuel College). Light refreshments will be served following the launch.
About the author
An alumna of the DSR (PhD 2011), Mona Tokarek LaFosse teaches basic degree and graduate-level New Testament and Early Christianity courses. She knew she wanted to pursue biblical studies when she learned New Testament Greek. Around that time, she also became interested in cultural anthropology as a window into honouring the diversity of cultural lenses through which people see and experience the world. Her teaching and research reflect these interests as she strives to understand the early Christians within their own cultural and social setting and time and to consider the lenses modern readers bring to their text readings.
