We are delighted to congratulate Department Chair and Graduate Chair, Professor Pamela Klassen, who has received the JJ Berry Smith Doctoral Supervision Award. The award recognizes outstanding performance in the multiple roles associated with doctoral supervision over a minimum period of 15 years. Klassen has supervised or co-supervised some 20 doctoral and 14 master's students, as well as serving on numerous dissertation committees at U of T and other universities.
Her current research addresses religion, colonialism, treaties, and public memory in North America and Turtle Island. Klassen has worked closely with students as co-authors and research associates, approaching the study of religion with a diversity of methods including the digital storytelling project Kiinawin Kawindomowin Story Nations (storynations.utoronto.ca), a collaboration with the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre of Rainy River First Nations, in Treaty 3 Territory.
